An open lesson in bank accounting at NTG introduced students to real banking practice
The lesson was conducted jointly with our partners from DSK Bank – Petar Pironkov, manager of the “Paldin” financial center, and Anna Savova, Youth Market Manager – South Region, who introduced us to Lazarina Pencheva, director of the accounting department at DSK Bank’s headquarters in Sofia. The purpose of the meeting was to compare the knowledge accumulated by the students during the year in one of the most challenging yet most impressive subjects – bank accounting – with real banking practice and real cases. The students demonstrated serious practical knowledge in defining and recognizing banks’ assets and liabilities, calculating interest on deposits and loans, using correct correspondences between accounting accounts, and logical economic thinking. The director of the accounting department challenged the students with solving the most common accounting cases in practice and preparing the reporting forms of banks’ annual financial statements. The representatives of the banking institution were impressed by the demonstrated accounting and professional skills and welcomed the students to the profession of bank accountant. The lesson was yet another proof of the existing inseparable connection between vocational education and real banking practice, between the studied theory and its practical applicability in real accounting cases also examined during the school year. Thus, once again, the preparedness of our students and their full readiness for realization in real business were proven. We thank our partners for the conducted practical session, which was not hindered by distance thanks to the possibilities of new technologies.
